Policy Development, Resource Management
Choice of Evidence:
Process Assessment
Automation Comparison
Evidence:
My process assessment helped me to develop and implement a policy for selecting resources, and also to assess, develop, and evaluate the collection in terms of curriculum needs. My automation comparison shows that I have looked at different library systems and can assess emerging technologies.
Learning Reflection:
The job of the teacher librarian requires one to develop (or follow!) library policy and manage the resources in the library. I feel I have done this, and that I often involve the school community in selecting resources by way of a questionnaire with a few questions that they can easily answer. It took me a while to realize how important this process is; it was only after hearing a faculty member (and students, actually!) say, "hey, I wanted this!" and watching their delight when they poked through a stack of new books did I realize that by asking them what was needed was not only important in terms of developing appropriate library resources, but also in their having ownership of the materials in the library.
